Why Google Analytics average time is often 0.0

When you first use Google Analytics you may be concerned that so many of your visitors have an 'average time on site' as 0:00. You may be worried the visitor was not genuine, or did not read anything, but this is not the case.

The average time on site is calculated by subtracting the time between page views on your site. Therefore, if a visitor opened a page and left without navigating to another of your pages, there is no second view and therefore the average time is recorded as 0.00, even though they may have been there for minutes reading your page.

Of course, you would still like visitors to be clicking around your site for hours, but the average site time can be misleading, so bare this in mind.

Google Analytics: Why it is a must!

For a start Google Analytics is free, so you might as well try it out, but you would be mad not to use this service properly in order to view statistics concerning the visitors to your website.

Trying to understand your audience - who they are and how many of them there are - is vital if you seek to keep them coming to your site and to attract more. So what better, than to have the complete lowdown on your audience:

  • Where they came from
  • Where they live
  • What they viewed
  • How long they stayed there

As well as lots of lots of geeky, technical and worthless information.

The information is importantly presented in a fantastic way, easy to understand and to analyse.

So, get signed up and enjoy the benefits.
